The Story of Dr. Khalid

“Salaam, my name is Dr. Khalid. I was born and raised in Afghanistan and was a physician there. When the Taliban took over, I was forced to leave with my wife who was pregnant. When I came to the United States, I did not know or have anyone except my wife. Luckily, I heard about an organization called OneAfghanistan. They were holding a virtual resume work shop that I attended. That’s when I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Yousef Nikzai (VP) and his amazing team. They have done so much to help me.

From helping me build my resume, to coaching me on interview skills, and even providing me with means of transportation (a bicycle). Because of OneAfghanistan, I was able to land a position as a senior community health worker in the US. I talk with Dr. Nikzai monthly to make sure I’m on the right track and doing everything I can to transition into this wonderful country. Right now, I’m in the process of getting my drivers license and will start driving school soon. Alhamdullilah I’m grateful for them and just wanted to briefly share my story.” - Dr. Khalid
